The Best Way to be Happier
Last year I read an article about Singapore Ranks as World’s Most Emotionless Society. This afternoon I saw and experienced hope.
I was stepping into the bus, haven’t tapped my EZ-Link card, when I heard the bus driver greeted me with “good afternoon” and a smile. I smiled back, and felt something different. I felt good. The driver gave a positive energy that made me feel good. I sat down, and I was wondering if he would do the same thing at every stop, and he did! And not just that, he also said goodbye and thank you to the passengers who got off the bus.
Some said that it’s not about emotionless, but we just don’t care enough. Everyday, on my way to work, I see most of the time, people stare at their phones. We don’t care enough of what’s going on around us, and I strongly believe this makes most of us unhappy (see this article about the most unhappy people are the citizens of Singapore). I remember a quote from Mark Twain, “The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.”
Do you want to be happier? Try to cheer somebody else up like that bus driver. How about now?
